What's the correct way in a source code to detect whether it is compiled
on an IRIX version with old (pre 6?) or new audio libraries?
I found that checking for the prefence of the define AL_DEFAULT_OUTPUT
might do the trick, but maybe there's any better or "official way?

that should be "pre 6.5"
IRIX 6.2 still uses the old audio libraries.

But 6.3 used the new libraries.
